Terms

Updated 15 October 2026

The terms for using Road Rules Abroad, buying the app, refunds, and what the guides can and can't promise.

These terms cover the Road Rules Abroad website and app, run by Ryan Burke in Sydney, Australia ("we"). By using them you agree to these terms. Questions go to hello@roadrulesabroad.com.

What Road Rules Abroad is, and isn't

Road Rules Abroad explains road rules in plain English from official sources, and says when each country was last checked. It is a guide, not legal advice and not a substitute for the law itself. Rules change, they vary within countries, and local signs, road markings and the police on the day always take priority over anything we say. You are responsible for how you drive and for knowing the rules where you drive.

We work hard to be accurate, but we can't promise every detail is complete or current at the moment you read it. Where a rule matters to you, such as whether you need an International Driving Permit, check it with the official source we link to before you travel.

Buying the app

The app is free to try. One payment unlocks everything in it, for every country we cover now and every country we add later, with no subscription. The price is shown before you pay.

Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record for every sale. It takes the payment, charges any sales tax, sends your receipt and issues your licence key, under its terms. It charges cards in US dollars, at the price shown converted on the day, so your bank may show a slightly different amount in your own currency and may add its own fee for overseas transactions. Your licence key is for you and your own devices. Please don't share it or resell it: a key that turns up on lots of devices stops unlocking new ones.

Refunds

If the app isn't right for you, email us within 30 days of buying and we'll refund you in full. No questions asked, and you don't need to send anything back. After a refund the licence key stops working.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or the consumer law where you live.

Our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for fines, penalties, accidents, losses or costs that arise from using Road Rules Abroad or relying on it, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us. Where the law doesn't allow this limit, our liability is limited to supplying the app again or refunding what you paid.

Links, partners and photos

Some links take you to other businesses, such as hire car comparison sites. They're marked as ads, and we earn a commission when you book through them, which doesn't change your price. Those businesses are responsible for their own services.

The camera photos belong to the people who took them and are used under the licences named on the photo credits page. The road sign drawings are our own work, drawn from official designs.

The rest

You may not copy the app or the guides in bulk, scrape them, or use them to make a competing product. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia.
