Road signs in Greece, explained

15 signs, checked 15 October 2026

What each sign means and what to do, drawn to Greece's official designs. The must-know signs come first in each group.

Priority and junctions

STOP

Stop

STOP (Ρ-2)

Stop completely at the line and give way to all traffic.

What to do: Stop even if the road is clear. Ignoring the sign costs €350 and a 30-day licence suspension.

Priority road

Οδός προτεραιότητας

You are on a priority road. Traffic joining from side roads must give way to you.

What to do: Carry on, but watch for cars pulling out.

No entry

Απαγορεύεται η είσοδος

No vehicles may enter, usually because it is the wrong end of a one-way street.

What to do: Do not enter. Find another route.

Roundabout ahead

Κυκλικός κόμβος (Κ-30)

A roundabout is ahead.

What to do: Slow down and check the entry for a give-way sign. Without one, traffic entering has priority.

Speed and cameras

32

Maximum speed

Ανώτατο όριο ταχύτητας (Ρ-32)

You may not drive faster than the number shown, in km/h.

What to do: Keep to the limit. In towns the default is now 30 km/h, so expect many 30 signs.

CAMERA WARNINGSIGN

Camera warning sign

Enforcement cameras are installed ahead. The law requires this sign wherever the new cameras are installed and before each fixed speed camera.

What to do: Check your speed and lane, and stop at red lights. Do not count on seeing a sign before every camera.

Motorways and overtaking

No overtaking

Απαγορεύεται η προσπέραση

You may not overtake other motor vehicles.

What to do: Stay behind until the restriction ends.

Warnings

Dangerous bend

Επικίνδυνη στροφή

A sharp bend is ahead.

What to do: Slow down before the bend.

Roadworks

Οδικά έργα

Roadworks are ahead.

What to do: Slow down and follow any temporary signs.

Falling rocks

Πτώση βράχων

Rocks may fall onto the road.

What to do: Watch the road surface, especially after rain, and do not stop under the cliff.

Slippery road

Ολισθηρό οδόστρωμα

The road surface can be slippery.

What to do: Slow down and avoid sudden braking or steering.

Zones and parking

BUSLANE

Buses only

Λεωφορειολωρίδα (Ρ-67)

The lane or road is for buses and trolleybuses only.

What to do: Do not drive, stop or park in it. Cameras on Athens buses record cars in bus lanes.
